Hughes Family Bakers was originally started in 1925 by Edward and Blanche Hughes. In 1958 Malcolm Hughes and his wife Janet and Peter (Malcolm's brother) started Hughes in its present form away from their parents small bakery. Hughes concentrated mainly on the retail trade until 1970 when a move to a satellite bakery enabled wholesale business to be considered. Throughout the 70's to the late 90's the business ran a maximum of seven shops and ever expanding wholesale. Even though the business is purely wholesale our recipes and methods are of a retail nature. We still manufacture as a craft business, with many of our products still being made by hand. Quality and taste are our prime concern, just as they were in our retail days. We currently have twelve refrigerated vehicles on the road Monday to Saturday. We deliver throughout the wholeYorkshire region. We currently deliver as far up as the North east and all the way down as far as Nottingham. We manufacture morning goods in the way of rolls, baps and tin bread. We also produce a wide range of fresh cream products such aseclairs, sponges, apple and jam turnovers, trifles, plus a traditional vanilla. In confectionery our range encompasses oat crunch, caramel, jam and coconut slice, chocolate brownie, various tray bakes and many more. All products are manufactured using only non hydrogenated vegetable fats and oils. We are fully compliant with the current legislation concerning the use of natural colours and ingredients.
