Auditing for SALSA
The SALSA watch phrase is ‘think national, but act local.’ Many
national buyers recognise the importance of local sourcing for the
sustainability of local food businesses in the UK. Likewise, it now
does not make any sense to send an Auditor from a base in South East England to North West Wales
without adding significant cost to the process. It is also one of the main reasons why meeting
Buyers' food safety standards have, up to now, been prohibitively expensive
for most small Suppliers.
SALSA Auditors are professionals with proven food industry experience in the fields of operation they will be auditing.
To verify this, all Auditors must have been accepted by the IFST Register of Professional Food Auditors and Mentors (PFAM).
Every Supplier approved by SALSA receives an annual audit against the SALSA Standard. The audit is appropriate and proportionate to the size of the business and, unlike standards under EN45011 accreditation, Auditors are able to provide advice and guidance to the supplier during an audit - just as those Auditors working directly for the Buyer normally do.
