Food Labelling workshop gets it right first time!

The first in a series of five regional workshops is helping smaller producers with their labelling to comply with current Food Information Regulations.

The first Food Labelling workshop delivered by SALSA has been very well received by delegates.   Held on 30th April at the BRC Offices in London, the venue provided excellent and appropriate facilities for all attendees.

The workshops have been developed for small food and drink businesses throughout the UK.  SALSA recognised that the whole arena of Food Information Regulations can be daunting for the smaller and specialised UK producer.  Workshop content is focused on understanding the legislation and practically translating this knowledge into legally compliant labels.

One delegate, Ms Haide Malik from Kent-based Plamil Foods which sell a range of soy and ‘free from’ products, including chocolate, egg-free mayonnaise, puddings, soups and baking goods,  commented, ‘The workshop was very well structured with good handouts and information on the regulations.  Trainers were outstanding and very informative  - it was great!

SALSA has ensured that the workshop content is highly interactive, enabling delegates to develop, check and authorise their own company labels in compliance with the FIR.  Ms Joni Rhodes from Isle of Wight-based ‘The Tomato Stall’ adds, ‘A brilliant course; very useful with clear information from both tutors.  I now feel much more confident about labelling.’

Sally Ball, Scheme Manager is delighted.   ‘It’s important that small businesses understand labelling and the new regulations; recalling of product due to incorrect labelling is very costly and time-consuming.  We are delighted with the response from the workshop and are excited to offer this service to our members and other businesses.

The next workshop is on Wednesday 3rd June, at SALSA’s offices near Banbury, Oxfordshire.  The central location should be within comfortable reach of many businesses.  Free parking is available on site.
