MANFOOD turns to SALSA for more market muscle!

MANFOOD are producers of a new range of ‘extra strength’ pickles, chutneys and jams.  The company, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire was founded in 2013 by André Dang formerly a food buyer at Harrods and Selfridges who took up the challenge to make a heavyweight pickle packed with strong flavours.  Today, the range includes sixteen lines, including piccalilli, smoked tomato sauce, beer jelly and an achar (chilli vegetable) pickle all of which, André says, can be enjoyed with cheeses, bread and butter, cold cuts and snacks.

The Company started out in André’s home kitchen and then in 2014, moved to a dedicated production unit employing 2 staff.  In order to expand the business, MANFOOD joined SALSA in February 2014 and successfully gained approval just eight months later.  André reflects, ‘Being a small business, we realised that BRC accreditation was just too much to take on while trying to run a boutique business day-to-day. SALSA with its mentors, full support scheme and wide recognition within the industry was the perfect option for us.’

MANFOOD sought the advice and guidance of SALSA-approved mentor David Green. ‘David’s advice was invaluable; he provided clear, concise advice and help that was entirely appropriate for our type of business.  He highlighted the website resources and the Tools and Tips which have been a great help in understanding what SALSA and UK buyers were looking for,’ comments André.

The Company currently supplies Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason, Fenwick and numerous independent delis, stores and farmers’ markets across the UK.  Since gaining SALSA they will shortly be supplying Lakeland and are included in the John Lewis hamper range for Christmas 2014.
